Renewables - Key findings
Ghana considers renewable energy as one of the options to contribute to the overall energy mix to improve security of supply and to reduce emissions. To this end, the country has passed the Renewable Energy Act 2011, (Act 832) and adopted policies aimed at increasing the contribution of renewable energy in our energy mix. Ghana’s renewable energy resources include hydro, solar, wind, biomass, tidal, wave and municipal wastes. The share of renewable in the electricity generation mix is gradually increasing due to continuous decline in cost and concerted effort to diversify the mix. As at 2020, the share of renewable generation (Including generation from large hydro) in the electricity generation mix stood at 36.4%.
